With family roots in Muskoka dating back to 1884, Rob brings a lifelong connection to the community, eight years of municipal experience and decades of senior financial leadership.
About Me
For the past four years, I have had the privilege of serving as Councillor for Ward C and as Chair of the Planning Committee. It has been a rewarding experience, and I am proud of the progress our Council has made in making the Township of Muskoka Lakes a better place to live, work and visit. Some of these accomplishments include implementing the Short Term Rental bylaw, updating the Dark Sky bylaw to have exterior lights out at 11 PM for lakefront properties, rationalizing the number of fire stations to reduce cost but maintain response time and recently to approve two multi-unit building applications in Bala that will significantly increase housing in the Township.
Before being elected to Council, I served from 2019–2022 on the Committee of Adjustment. That experience gave me a strong understanding of planning, zoning and the workings of the Township. Combined with my four years on Council, I will bring eight years of municipal experience to the next term.
My connection to Muskoka goes back much further. My family first came to Muskoka in 1884 and my first summer here was 1952 on Tobin Island. Muskoka has been an important part of my life ever since. I have a deep love and appreciation for this special place, I believe we have a responsibility to protect its natural beauty and community character for future generations.
Professionally, I retired in 2015 as Chief Financial Officer of a publicly traded high-tech start-up based in Markham and Palo Alto, California. Before that, I held a number of senior financial management positions with IBM, including international assignments in Brazil and the Caribbean.
I am a long-time member of the board of Safe Quiet Lakes and I am a member of its Safe Wakes Coalition which works to encourage responsible and respectful wake-sport activity on our lakes.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, I served on the Board of the Muskoka Lakes Association.
I have a daughter and two grandsons. Although I maintain a home in Toronto, I spend as much time in Muskoka as possible—about half the year, including in the winter after the lake has frozen.
